Chapter 2012

Courageous Women: Incarnating the Christ!

An outrageous proclamation?  It would be were it not for the truth that God planned from all eternity that, by grace, We be conformed to the image of his Son‖ (Romans8:29).
From Janet Sullivan’s article in Connections 11,2011

Our Chapter process is calling us to set out once again on a journey that sometimes leads into the darkness of night.  Like the magi, we do not journey alone, but together, trusting the One who leads us still by a flicker of light, of hope, of courage.

Once again we have great cause for rejoicing. On November 11, the Santa Casa, in a solemn ceremony presided over by Fr. Wanderlei, OFM (provincial minister), inaugurated its latest, most noteworthy achievement— the installation of its state-of-the-art MRI.  The new edifice built to house the equipment was dedicated as “Mother Teresa O’Neil  Diagnostic Center,”
a name chosen by Rita Cecilia Coelho, CEO, out of love for and in honor of our founder. For Rita, the greatest satisfaction is to be able to offer this service to the most needy, those who would otherwise have no access or extremely limited access to such technology.

Living Our Mission in Health Care Ministry
from FSA Connections

In the last issue, we looked at the ways our FSA mission was being lived out and passed on through our health care ministry at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. In this issue, we turn our attention to Helen Owens and her ministry as vice president of mission and community health outreach at Lourdes Health System in Camden, N.J. In 2010, Helen was the recipient of the Monsignor Michael Doyle and Monsignor Bob McDermott Award for Parish and Community Ministry. Her remarks on that occasion give us insight into the path that led into her present position. After admitting that she never had a huge plan about how things would be, Helen credits “the grace of God and the wonderful support and unbelievable strength and direction of my mom” for bringing her to this place. Mt. Alvernia High School Honors Angella Harris
Taken from comments delivered by Immediate Past-Principal, Carmen Hall
As part of the Mt. Alvernia High School’s 85th anniversary celebration on October 25, a plaque was unveiled dedicating the school’s multi-media room to Sr. Angella Harris. When Angella recognized the need for the school to become more technologically advanced, she acted to correct that shortcoming by seeing that a multi-media room was built. According to Immediate Past-Principal Carmen Hall, in doing this, she demonstrated “that a small, youthful female can stimulate great progress.” Read more

In a beautiful ceremony on August 29, the FSAs handed over Marymount High School’s mission statement and the title of the property to Archbishop Donald J. Reece, D.D., of the Kingston Diocese.
